Becoming a Paramedic in West Palm Beach or Fort Lauderdale
Becoming a Paramedic in West Palm Beach or Fort Lauderdale can be done in as little as 12 months. The Paramedic training program at HCI, available at both of our campuses, means that you can become trained as a Paramedic and begin your career within a year.
The Paramedic Training Program
The Paramedic program is 45 college credits of theory instruction, lab practice, and a hands-on externship that prepares the Paramedic student with the knowledge and skills needed to pass the national examination for Paramedics.
Paramedics learn advanced life support techniques. An array of medical emergencies that the Paramedic professional will encounter are discussed in detail in the theory courses. Students learn about supporting patients with cardiopulmonary emergencies, opioids and other overdoses, broken bones, and more. They also learn about administering medications.
The 150 hours of labs give Paramedic trainees the opportunity to apply what they have learned in the classroom in simulated emergency situations. Theory takes on new meaning when it is applied in practice. Because Paramedics need to be able to make accurate decisions in a fast-paced environment, the combination of theory and applied practice is important when they work in the field.
An externship of 540 hours, which includes a combination of ambulance ride time and experience in the hospital emergency room, gives Paramedic trainees in West Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale a real-life look at what they will face on the job every day. It also gives them their first experience in the field.
