Preparing For A Firefighter Interview

prepare firefighter interview

Before you are graced with a career as a Firefighter, you first have to make it through the interview process. The following will give you some insight as to how you can best prepare for an interview for a career as a Firefighter.

Have A Good Sense Of Your Choice To Be A Firefighter

Some questions are likely to be based around your desire to get into the field and become a Firefighter. The last thing you want to do is make it sound like you’re in it because you think it’s cool or fun. You want to make sure to get to the real meat and potatoes of why you chose the field.

Do you want to help people? Do you want to make a difference? These are the things you want to focus on.

You should also have a good sense of who you are, as well as your background. This does not mean to regurgitate what your resume and cover letter say. What about you can separate you from others?

Instead of telling the interviewer about what your education is, which can be easily found on your resume, tell him/her about the core of who you are. Are you energetic and work well with teams? Do you have a strong desire to help people and make a difference in the community?

If you can stay on that track, you will be headed in the right direction for a career as a Firefighter

Use Previous Experience To Enhance Your Interview For A Firefighter Position

Whether you are interviewing for a 9-5 job, or a fast-paced, action-packed career like a Firefighter, it is important to reflect back on your past jobs with a clear head and positive attitude. If you are questioned about a previous boss, regardless of what your experience may be, always be sure to see the bright side.

Explain to your interviewer how your previous boss(es) contributed to who you are today. You should not go into anything negative about a previous employer as that will reflect negatively on you.

Seek Advice From Current Firefighters

If you have connections to Firefighters whether through friends, family, or your school, get together with them and pick their brains about their experiences. Find out what their interview processes were like and absorb everything you can before you go in for yours.

Best of luck!
