How to Become a Registered Nurse in Florida

Become a Registered Nurse in Florida

Registered Nurses (RNs) must be licensed to practice. You have to be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of medicine and patient care.

Without the proper training and credentials, you would not be allowed to work as an RN. So, how do you become a Registered Nurse in Florida?

Education and Training

The Florida Board of Nursing states that nurses must graduate from an approved nursing program. Once the nurse has completed all of the education requirements, the nurse is permitted to sit for the National Council Licensing Exam (NCLEX). Nurses in the HCI program take 72 college credits of courses for an associate’s degree in nursing. The BSN program has a total of 120 college credits. Both of these nursing programs provide a solid foundation for a career in Florida as a Registered Nurse.

In HCI’s nursing programs, student nurses learn about professional nursing theory and gain practical skills as a nurse. The lab and clinical hours give nurses a hands-on education. By the time they begin working with patients, they have a deep understanding of what it means to be a nurse and how to work with patients.

Final Steps to Becoming an RN in Florida

Once someone has graduated from a nursing program, that person can now register for the licensing exam. You fill out an application to take the NCLEX. You also have to get an electronic fingerprint on file and submit proof of your education and training. Make sure to correctly submit the electronic fingerprints as instructed, or your fingerprints might not go where they are supposed to go. Then scheduled the exam upon approval. Your last step is passing the exam.

The NCLEX determines your eligibility for becoming an RN. You have to answer questions about medical knowledge. Some questions will give you a scenario that you have to solve as a nurse would. You will apply your skills and knowledge during the test. Passing the NCLEX leads to licensure as a nurse.

Becoming a Registered Nurse in Florida involves two major steps: education/training and passing the licensure exam. Are you interested in becoming an RN? Contact us to learn more about our nursing programs and how you can enroll. Your career in nursing awaits you!
