Testing For Essential Academic Skills (TEAS)
If you are looking to become a Nurse, you will want to look into the tests you will have to take throughout your journey. The first test you will likely have to take is the Test for Essential Academic Skills, also known as TEAS.
What You Can Expect With TEAS
This is the test you take before getting into a health career school. You will be tested on your basic aptitude, which is designed to find out if you would be a good candidate for Nursing school.
The most recent version of the TEAS exam is multiple choice. There are four sections that add up to a total of 209 minutes for the entire exam, which breaks down to roughly four hours.
Section One Of TEAS – Reading
This section is 40 questions and 50 minutes. It will test your reading comprehension, passage comprehension, and inferences/conclusions.
Section Two Of TEAS – Math
This section is 45 problems and 56 minutes. You can expect to see whole numbers, metric conversions, fractions, decimals, algebraic equations, percentages, and ratio/proportions.
Section Three Of TEAS – Science
This section is 30 questions and 38 minutes. You will be asked questions regarding reasoning, knowledge, chemistry, biology, anatomy, physiology, basic physical principles, and general science.
Section Four – English Language Usage
This section is 55 questions and 65 minutes. You can expect your general questions to include grammar, sentence structure, punctuation, contextual words, and spelling.
There are prep courses for this exam which you can take. You can also do the research yourself and put together your own study guide.
