School Nurse Job Description
School Nursing is a specific branch of professional Nursing that is geared towards promoting the well-being, academic success, and overall health of students.
School Nurses care for typical ailments and other health issues, as well as promoting health in safety in the general school environment.
School Nurses must identify and treat all traditional health problems among students, while also instructing students on the maintenance of good health and disease prevention. - Developing policies and procedures for school health program
- Prepare health reports for board of education and health department
- Provide first aid care and medically prescribed services
- Serve as a permanent resource on all health-related issues
- Screen and conduct health appraisals for students and staff
- Communicate with parents to discuss needs of all students
- Record immunizations and all other relevant health data
School Nurses must be certified by the American Nurses Association or the National Association of School Nurses. Nurses also must complete training in order to become licensed registered Nurses, as well as accumulate a solid background with experience in pediatrics or public health Nursing.
