Women’s Health Nursing Job Description
Women’s Health Nurses are Nurses who specialize in providing treatment for health problems that are often unique to females. Women’s Health Nurses typically deal with diseases and disabilities such as osteoarthritis, migraines, depression, and much more.
These Nurses must be prepared to grasp and understand all needs of women, as well as strive to form long-lasting fruitful relationships with each patient.
Women’s Health Nurses provide pre-conception care, prenatal care, postpartum care, family planning services, and many other forms of healthcare for women in any number of settings. WHNPs (Women’s Health Nursing Practitioners) are equipped to work in primary care clinics, physician offices, community health centers, hospitals, antepartum triage units, schools, college health clinics, nursing homes, and nearly any other healthcare facility.
Duties of a Women’s Health Nurse include the following:
- Diagnosing, treating, and assisting female patients through illnesses
- Conducting physical examinations
- Documenting medical history
- Prescribing pharmacologic treatments
- Providing primary and specialty care for all women
- Performing minor surgeries
- Ensuring patients are educated and up-to-date on condition
- Educate patients on preventative measures to avoid illness
Many Women’s Health Nurses work independently without the supervision of a physician, although without the proper experience and education, a physician will be present. A Women’s Health Nurses duties depend greatly on the level of licensure that the Nurse obtains.
