Nursing School

If you’re looking for a career with stability, Nursing is a great choice.  Nursing is a rapidly growing field with many opportunities for advancement.

Prior to applying to Nursing school, you’re required to take prerequisite courses to help prepare you for your core classes.  Some of these include:

  • Anatomy and physiology
  • Biology
  • Nutrition
  • Human development.

It is important to stay focused on your studies and maintain a high GPA as Nursing is a very competitive field.  Due the overwhelming amount of applicants in Nursing programs, you may want to keep your options open when applying to a school.  It’s also helpful to meet with a representative from the schools you are interested in, in order to get a feel for what each school is looking for when it comes to Nursing applicants.

After deciding what school(s) may be your best fit, you’ll need to fill out an application.  The application for enrollment is a critical part of the process.  When evaluating applications, admissions officers are looking to understand each individual and what makes them unique. The following areas will be evaluated:

  • Academic performance
  • Personal experiences
  • Professional involvement
  • Leadership qualities
  • Well-thought-out essay
  • Letters of recommendation

Taking your time with the admission process is vital, in order to avoid incomplete and unorganized applications.

Your admissions essay shouldn’t be ordinary.  Because you don’t get to meet those who review your Nursing school application, your essay is a way to portray your originality and creativity.  The essay should be personalized by writing clearly about your experiences and motivations.  You’ll also want to make sure you explain what inspired you to go into Nursing, making sure to include any relevant experiences or volunteer work.  Lastly, you want to make sure to promote your strengths, your long term goals, and why you are an ideal candidate for the school of your choice.

Getting into Nursing school is demanding, but achievable with preparation, dedication, and hard work. With a positive outlook, strong admissions essay, and good grades, Nursing school is just an acceptance letter away.  Good luck!
