Careers With A BSN
Nursing is a field that will never be short of jobs. With technological and medical care advancements, there will always be a need for nurses. A bachelor’s of science in nursing (BSN) will help prepare you for a career in nursing. Once you have your BSN, you can go into almost any specialty within nursing.
Below are some of the specialized fields you can begin to work in and hopefully advance in with a BSN degree.
Emergency Room Care with BSN Degree
The emergency room may be one of the most fast-paced specialties in nursing which will teach you a variety of different skills. The emergency room deals with everything from trauma to delivering babies. There, you will provide care for people of all ages in many different situations. Some skills that will help you if you decide that you want to work in an emergency room are:
- Multi-tasking
- Being able to cope with a number of situations
- Good interpersonal skills
Pediatrics with BSN Degree
In your BSN studies, you probably have taken a course on the healthcare of children. If you think that you may want to work in a pediatric facility after receiving your BSN, you can take a few more credits and become a CPN (certified pediatric nurse). With a BSN in pediatrics, you can work in hospitals, or a doctor’s office.
Hospice and Palliative Care with BSN Degree
After earning your BSN, you may decide you want to work with patients and families who are reaching the end of their lives. As a hospice nurse, your duty is to provide comfort and care to patients and their families during the final days.
These specialties are only three of the many areas within nursing that you can have a career in. Many people who want to be a nurse have yet to decide what specialty they want to focus on. With a BSN, you can start in one area, gain skills and knowledge and if you decide it isn’t the right place for you, you can always try something else. The possibilities are endless.
