If you are looking for a fast-paced job within nursing, you may want to consider becoming an ambulatory care nurse.  Obtaining an Associate of Science in nursing will help prepare you for becoming an ambulatory care nurse.  In the ASN program, you will receive an education that will equip you will the tools you will need to succeed within your career.   Ambulatory care nurses are focused on two things – prevention and primary care.  In these instances, patients will not be going to the hospital during their visit. 

Job Settings for ASN Degree

  • Telehealth – Nurses with an ASN degree who work in telehealth can work with different types of technologies to hold consultations, triage the patient, and deliver and follow up on information about the patient.
  • Doctors Office – In a doctors office, nurses help physicians with patient examinations and procedures.
  • Community Centers – Ambulatory care nurses are used in community centers to research how to educate patients in these centers.  In addition, they also coordinate events or programs, and advocate.
  • Schools – In a school setting, nurses respond to medical emergencies in the school, as well as educate students, faculty, and staff.
  • Urgent Care – Nurses are important in urgent care centers, as they treat ailments beyond that of a doctors office, but are not for those who need a hospital.
  • Health Insurance Companies – Nurses are beginning to become employed for health insurance companies, because these companies want nurses to team up with health care providers to make sure guidelines are being followed.

Salary and Job Outlook for ASN Degree

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the average salary of a nurse is about $64,600 annually.  As with all careers, salary will be dependent on location, education and experience.  A nurse who is looking to make more money may want to consider going for a BSN or MSN program. 

Nurses are in demand, and jobs within nursing are expected to increase between 2010 and 2020.  There will never be a shortage of nursing positions, so its a great career to get into, and ambulatory care nursing is a specialty that any nurse would be happy to work in.
