Earn an Associate's in EMS

Are you ready and eager to begin your career as an emergency medical technician? If you’re exploring the field and know that a fast-paced, high-responsibility job where you’ll serve the community and help people on a daily basis is right for you, you may have realized that you’re ready to take the first steps necessary toward becoming an EMT.

Here at Health Career Institute, you can obtain an associate’s degree in emergency medical services to assist you on your path toward becoming an EMT.

The EMS Degree at HCI

The HCI associate’s degree program in EMS is a two-year, 60-credit program during which you’ll learn the fundamentals for a career in emergency medical services. Like many degree programs, your education will begin with a general education foundation. The coursework covered here includes English Composition I and II, Liberal Arts Mathematics or Intermediate Algebra, Introduction to Psychology, and History of the USA: A Survey to 1877. These classes add up to 15 credits and are the foundation of your associate’s degree.

Beyond the general education curriculum, the EMS associate’s degree delves into the Paramedic curriculum. The remaining credits needed for the degree cover paramedic lectures and labs as well as field work.

In order to graduate, students must demonstrate a satisfactory understanding of the information covered. Each potential graduate is evaluated individually by the medical or EMS program director. Evaluations will take into consideration the student’s academic statistics and standing, clinical performance and assessment, general attitude and performance, understanding and knowledge of topics covered, and judgement as assessed by the director.
