Nursing Core Courses
The Introduction to Professional Nursing course emphasizes a role change from being a Paramedic to becoming a Registered Nurse. The focus will be on providing holistic care for adult clients in structured health settings. Nursing students will be introduced to nursing theory, drug administration, elderly care, and basic mental concepts.
Nursing I, II, and III will guide nursing students through concepts and procedures within the field of nursing. Hands-on labs and clinicals complement the classroom instruction so that nursing students get the opportunity to apply what they learn in the lectures. The focus is on applying theory, performing nursing skills, and learning how to build relationships and rapport with patients. Technical knowledge will meet practical application.
Psychiatric Nursing lecture and clinicals prepare nursing students to meet the needs of patients and their families in psychiatric health care settings. Understanding the human mind and emotions is another important aspect to health care. Patient care goes beyond caring for their physical ailments to caring for their mental and emotional well-being as well.
The Preceptorship/Practicum Clinical incorporates everything learned into one practical course. Nursing students will learn about management theory, organizational decision-making, and nursing leadership. Communication skills, ethics and legal considerations, nutritional therapies, patient education, and more are also covered in this five credit-hour course.
The Nursing Degree
Earning your ADN from HCI will prepare you for the challenges that you will face in the nursing field. You will understand what it takes to be a Registered Nurse and have hands-on and practical experience before you take the NCLEX exam. You will build relationships with hospitals and clinics that will carry over into your professional life throughout your nursing career.
The associates degree in nursing can be completed in as little as 20-24 months. Some of the courses can even be completed online to suit your busy schedule. In addition to the core courses, nursing students will complete general education courses for a well-rounded and thorough education that prepares them for entering the professional world of nursing.
