The American Heart Association’s Non-valvular Atrial Fibrillation Course is an eLearning course targeted for physicians, nurses, and pharmacists in Cardiology and Electrophysiology. 

This American Heart Association course supports the 2014 AHA/ACC/HRS Guideline for the Management of Patients With Atrial Fibrillation: A Report of the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association Task Force on Practice Guidelines and the Heart Rhythm Society, which was published in the journal Circulation in March 2014.The Non-valvular Atrial Fibrillation Course is a self-paced, continuing education course that aims to consolidate the new guidelines and standards of patient care with an interactive experience for healthcare professionals.

The American Heart Association Course Content

This e-Learning course is designed to help medical professionals learn how to practically apply the new guidelines in clinical practice.It intends to teach the background, symptoms, diagnostic tools, treatment options, stroke risks and patient education for atrial fibrillation.

The course is compiled of six sections that must be completed in order to continue on to the e-Learning exam and will take about an hour and a half to complete.

The American Heart Association Learning Objectives

At the completion of this e-Learning course, the healthcare professional will be able to do the following:

  • Determine the incidence, pathophysiology, and progression of atrial fibrillation.
  • Discern the symptoms, assessment tools, and diagnostic tools usable in the diagnosis of atrial fibrillation.
  • Apply the treatments specific to the American Heart Association guidelines to provide evidence-based care to patients.
  • Acknowledge methods of preventing stroke in those patients with atrial fibrillation.
  • Examine patient education advice for atrial fibrillation.
